Most businesses treat marketing expenditure as an expense. And by nature, we tend to reduce our costs to ensure higher profitability. But you need to prove the spending on digital marketing to be an investment.

And you wouldn’t be lying in any way here. Investment is spending that helps you yield higher profits. So, consider digital marketing as an investment here. Wouldn’t you be getting more clients after making this spend? Was it possible for you to reach these clients before spending your marketing budget?

When there’s no other way of getting your clients, spending on marketing efforts must be your only resort, and that becomes an investment.

Show them the potential of digital marketing

Telling your client, they’re missing a lot on the table will not create any response. You have to be specific when making such claims. You must make rough calculations of the investment required and the increase in sales to tell them the potential of digital marketing for their business. 

Giving them figures like a 20% increase in sales will make them more inclined towards your service instead of saying you’ll get an increase in sales.

First impression matters

Another important thing here is that you must create the right impression from the start. It will establish you as the right candidate for the digital marketing position whenever the business owners want to opt for this marketing technique. It will also result in convincing the business owner that they’re missing something you’re aware of. 

Don’t just say, show them

Well, that goes for everything. No one likes to believe in mere words. You have to show them the proof that someone else is earning from using the same techniques, so the process is legit, and your business can also make money out of it.

Even if they haven’t hired you or aren’t convinced about using digital marketing in their business. Try going the extra mile by analyzing their existing social media presence. For the people whom you have to convince about the digital marketing presence, likely, they won’t have an active page. 

So, use Canva and create social media posts for them that they can readily upload on their page. Tell them that you’re doing it to show the results that constant posting can create. These benefits might not include a boost in traffic, but the overall authenticity of the page and the acceptance of the brand in the target market will increase significantly. 

Once they start regularly posting on social media forums, you’re a step ahead in convincing these business owners that spending on ads will also benefit them.
