While working from home, you might feel a sense of comfort, and frankly, it reduces the overall business set-up cost. But one thing to worry about is the lack of concentration or focus!

There are unwanted distractions and constant nudging from our family. In such a situation, you are rightful to ask How to Focus While Working Remote?

As I’ve also gone through such a situation, I can share some tips that I used to enhance my efficiency and reduce the noise around me.

So, let’s not waste your time by making you read extra stuff. Let’s start right away!

Set the right time to work

Most of us work as freelancers, so there’s no time restriction from the client on when to work. This gives us an edge in maintaining focus while working remote.

You can figure out what type of person you are. Are you a morning person or an evening guy? Depending on the answer, you can choose the early morning or late night hours. In both these slots, the other family members are usually not around to disrupt you from working. So, you can utilize this time to complete all your tasks.

Another benefit of selecting the early morning or late night routine is that you will have limited texts and calls from your friends and family. Thus, your phone will be the least distracting at this time.

Also, choosing the timeslots and abiding by them will let you maintain a healthy work-life balance. Otherwise, there’s a chance that you’ll only be glued to work and even that too with low productivity.

Create a home office

Create a home office for yourself, whether it is a corner in your room or a set-up on your roof. Setting such a space will provide you with a work environment. So, getting distracted by unwanted noise or tasks would be possible.

Besides, everyone else will know that you’re working, and they will be vigilant not to disturb you during your work hours. It can prove to be a wonderful answer to the question, how to focus while working remotely.

Set objectives

Being online and scrolling different websites or help articles does not help me focus. You must set objectives for yourself.

Tell yourself what you want to achieve every day in the next few hours. Even if you don’t achieve it in the first few working days, that’s fine. But you’ll still have a benchmark to achieve.

While setting objectives, don’t make them too unrealistic that you won’t even be motivated to achieve them. Similarly, setting too easy will keep you under-productive, and that’s why it is essential to be realistic when finding the answer to “How to Focus While Working Remote”?

Dress up formally

One of the other things we usually miss when working from home is formal dressing. Every one of us believes we’ll be better off in our night suits because we’re just home and not going to have any interactions.

But trust me, that impacts productivity and focus while working remotely. Your brain doesn’t consider it essential to concentrate on what you’re doing and finish it. Instead, it remains relaxed, and the result is lower productivity.

I am still not suggesting you wear a business formal, but a casual business dress should at least be there. It will keep you comfortable and help you improve your focus on your task.

Create a to-do list

When you’re working remotely, it is easier to miss out on different tasks or wrongly prioritize the activities you’ve to complete.

So, creating a to-do list and setting priorities on the tasks can help you focus on what’s essential and what can be delayed. However, you must not procrastinate and leave the low-priority tasks to the last minute till they become high-priority. That’s what I don’t recommend at all!

Limit social media and browsing

Another vital thing to focus on while working remotely is to limit the use of social media working. I know it is tempting, especially when you’re already on Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok. But make sure you keep it to work only.

Also, it is not about social media; if you’re a news reader or an explorer, it is highly likely to be influenced by the extra resources. So, when working, make a vigilant decision not to open any additional links or resources, no matter how good it looks.

Although I would have advised using some blockers, since we tend to be digital marketers, such a hack doesn’t work for us. So, you’ll have to change your mindset and ensure that you don’t get into any useless activity with all your deliberate effort.

Take breaks

Well, I’ve focused the entire article on working and limiting distractions. But don’t forget that taking regular breaks is also essential.

If you over-exhaust yourself, you’ll be more unproductive and will only be wasting your time sitting in front of the screen. There are multiple techniques to enhance focus, each offering a different time span to work and take breaks.

Personally, my favorite one is the Promodoro technique. You can surely read about it online, but just to give you an idea, here are a few details. While following this model, you have to work for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break. Continue this practice for three cycles, and then there is a 15 minute break interval.

At the start, you’ll feel you’re losing your time by following such a break schedule. But by implementing it for a few days, you’ll notice an increase in productivity. This is because your brain needs a break after continuous work. Also, a 25-minute time slot creates a sense of urgency that lets you achieve much more than you would otherwise have.

Summing up

So, I know they actually work. You might need a bit of time to settle down with these mechanisms. But once you do, you can surely get the most out of it.
